Hi! I’m Graham,
A mental health advocate & blogger
I am a writer, among other things; based in Cardross, on the edge of Argyll where I live with my partner Wendy, her two children and Dash the dog.

My writing is about my life with Schizophrenia but it is also about my family and the natural world, about loneliness and death and alienation. That sounds pretty sobering ! I hope not! It is also about love and the joy of listening to the curlews on the Clyde and collecting seaglass from the seashore.

I have worked in the field of mental health and mental illness for most of my life; spending a considerable amount of that time trying to speak and bear witness to the reality of the lives my friends, colleagues and companions experience.

My personal writing is almost an act of rebellion; over the decades it is possible to get weary about the theories and ideals people have to reduce the suffering many people in our community experience; they come and go, inspire, motivate, produce great emotion and repeat and repeat.

I prefer to try to write from the everyday, even though my grasp of reality is sketchy! I talk about life as I find it; the excitement and joy of family; the late nights battered by too many thoughts. I think we learn more and feel less patronized when we are not told what to think but can make our minds up for ourselves.
