My first bit of news since my website went live!!
Having been on the executive of the Scottish Mental Health Law Review for nearly a year, Karen Martin and myself have now been appointed joint vice Chairs of the review to support John Scott QC.
It feels exciting but will not be that much more different to what we are already doing.
I love being a part of the review; it is challenging, thought provoking; sometimes a bit terrifying and sometimes extremely emotional.
I have taken a back seat for the last two months, because of poor mental health. Basically it was like I ran into a brick wall and have had to spend a few weeks a bit stunned; with thoughts like those weird symbols you see in bubbles in comics when charactors have been knocked out!!
Luckily the worst of my thinking is receding, becoming less oppressive and frightening and so, I am looking forward in the next few weeks, to restarting my work at the Mental Welfare Commission and joining back in the debate and discussion with my peers and colleagues at the Scott review.
